Prices of Oil Futures Rose on Global Oil Exchanges on April 7
Prices of oil futures have increased on global oil exchanges. At the April 7 trading session of London InterContinental Exchange Futures the price of IPE Brent Crude oil futures per barrel rose to 122.67 USD (+0.37) and the price of Light Sweet Crude oil futures per barrel at the New York Mercantile Exchange equaled 110.30 USD (+1.47).

Batumi Oil Terminal Marked Contraction in Oil Product Transportation from January to March 2011
Batumi Oil Terminal handled 1 108 202 tons of oil products from January to March 2011, down 38 percent compared to the same period of 2010.Namely, Batumi Oil Terminal handled 293 965 tons in March, 360 965 tons in February and 453 418 tons in January.
Batumi oil terminal transported 969 279 tons of crude oil, 62 422 tons of petrol, 25 945 tons of diesel, 4 002 tons of kerosene and 46 551 tons of other fuels. The oil terminal handled a total of 6.115 million tons of oil products throughout 2010.

SOCAR Georgia Gas Spends 450 thousand GEL on Gasification in Village Bailari
SOCAR Georgia Gas has completed the gasification in the village of Bailari, the Kvemo Kartli Region.The company has constructed 9 kilometer medium-pressure gas pipeline and invested 450 thousand GEL in the project implementation. Energy Minister Aleksandre Khetaguri and the Kvemo Kartli Region governor David Kirkitadze visited the village on April 1.

Energy Companies to Use Cheap Loan as part of KfW Grant
Energy companies will use Cheap Loan as part of the grant of the Development Credit Institute of Germany (KfW).
KfW approved a 5.1 million EUR grant to the municipal development fund of the Regional Development Ministry in 2011. The grant will be spent on constructing small hydro power plants (HPP).
Energy Minister Aleksandre Khetaguri told GBC the municipal development fund has allocated to TBC Bank and VTB Bank Georgia so as the commercial banks allocate low interest rate loans to energy companies.
Khetaguri noted Khadori 2 HPP has applied first for the loan. A 2.2 million EUR loan has been already approved to the station. At this stage, a loan application of Alazani HPP and Ritseula HPP operator company is under consideration, Khetaguri added

Inter RAO UES to Pay 104 million USD to State Budget until October 15
Inter RAO UES must pay 104 million USD to the state budget until October 15 stage by stage after the Russian company has acquired Khrami 1 and Khrami 2 hydro power plants.
Georgian Energy Minister Aleksandre Khetaguri says the government has not decided yet where to direct these funds. The decision will be taken after the sum has been fully paid to the budget, the Minister added.
Under the deal, Inter RAO UES will construct a cascade of three hydro power plants with 90 to 100 megawatts. The project is an estimated 193 million USD. The construction works are expected to start in 2011 and end in 2015.
At the same time, Inter RAO UES is obliged to pay 20 million USD credit to one of the Japanese banks, rehabilitate the existing HPPs and increase the generation by at least 85 percent.

Government to Finance Khadori 2 HPP Rehabilitation
The Georgian government plans to finance the rehabilitation of Khadori 2 hydro power plant (HPP).The Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure, TBC Bank and VTB Bank Georgia concluded a respective agreement on fund allocations on April 4. Under the agreement, the Ministry will lend commercial bank a preferential loan.

KarEnergo Spends 24 000 GEL on Constructing 10 megawatt Wind Turbine Plant
The Georgia’s first wind turbine plant has launched operation in the village of Skra, the Gori District in summer 2011. The generated electricity will be supplied to the domestic distribution network.
SakEnergo, the Energy Ministry scientific center has constructed the plant and invested 24  000 USD in the project implementation, the center director Archil Zedgenidze noted.

Ninety new hybrid buses for London
The UK Government has awarded £3 million in funding to Transport for London (TfL), adding to previous grants of £10 million, to put another 90 green buses on London’s streets during 2011.
TfL’s latest award is supported by the Department for Transport’s £45 million Green Bus Fund, which aims to put more than 500 new low-carbon buses on roads across England by March 2012.

Welsh tidal energy project gets the green light
The UK’s Department of Energy and Climate Change and the Welsh Assembly Government have given the go ahead for a tidal energy project off the Pembrokeshire coast.
Tidal Energy’s 1.2 MW DeltaStream device will be tested in the Ramsey Sound for 12 months, providing power for around 1000 local homes in St David’s.

Agency of Protected Areas and Tbilisi State Academy of Art Signed up Agreement
Mr. George Shonvadze, Head of Agency of Protected Areas of the Ministry of Environment Protection of Georgia and Mr. Gia Bughadze, Rector of the Tbilisi State Academy of Art signed up an agreement in order to promote the joint creative art activities and educational programs.
According to the cooperation memorandum the Agency of Protected Areas will support to organize excursions and hiking tours for the Academy students on the Protected Areas of Georgia and also, the visits for interested scientists and students in the Administrations of Protected Areas and will participate in events organized by the university.
