Advanced biofuels, concentrated solar and solar photovoltaic will see accelerating adoption and growth and are on track to change the global energy mix far earlier than is often assumed. Their costs are falling rapidly, and they are on the path to becoming cost competitive within the next five to ten years, if not sooner, says a new report from The Boston Consulting Group (BCG). Onshore wind power will see steady adoption and continued growth.

Climate Change

Preventing losses caused by natural hazards

Losses caused by natural disasters across the world could triple to USD185 billion annually by the end of this century, even without taking into account the impact of climate change, according to the findings of a joint study by the United Nations and the World Bank unveiled this week. The consequences of climate change could lead to more losses, says the report that outlines a number of simple measures to prevent death and destruction.

Renewable Energy and the Public

'Public acceptance is key to the development of the renewable energy we need to meet our climate goals. Simple stereotypes of NIMBY opposition may work in newspaper headlines, but developers and policymakers need a more sophisticated understanding of what makes people tick and how best to engage. This new volume meets a pressing need - both academics and practitioners will gain from it.'
