Energy Minister: Gas Consumption will Shrink by Constructing Steam Power Plants and Developing Hydro Resources
Georgia's gas consumption volume will decrease by constructing steam power plants and developing hydro resources, Energy Minister Aleksandre Khetaguri told MPs on March 23. The construction of a coal steam power plant is of crucial importance, as both the gas consumption will decline and the coalmining industry will be developed, the Minister noted. Steam power plants receive 1000 cubic  meters of gas for 143 USD so as electricity consumption tariffs be stable in the long-term period, Khetaguri said.  Georgian Industrial Group (GIG) plans to construct a 300 megawatt steam power plant in Tkibuli, the Imereti Region.
